I was never in a fraternity. Irish universities don’t have them, so my only idea of them comes from Animal House. It’s been thirty-five years since that film started a trend for toga parties. Since then we’ve had Revenge of the Nerds and Old School, and to a lesser extent, The Social Network. So perhaps it’s time for a new look at frat-boy antics.
Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne live in dull, marital bliss in suburbia. Zac Efron and his fraternity brothers move in next door. The film looks like it might actually be quite funny, as the neigbours wage war on each other. At one point the film was called Bad Neigbors; perhaps the studio feared they were inviting snide comments from the critics. If it’s a hit, expect a slew of Robert de Niro parties and air-bag pranks.
Neighbors opens next summer. In the meantime, enjoy Bluto, Otter, Hoover, Flounder, and all the others
