A while ago I wrote how much I was looking forward to the new Godzilla film, after having seen the teaser trailer.
Now Warner Bros. has released the first full official trailer, which still does the clever thing of showing only glimpses of the monster.
Ken Watanabe fills us in on the back-story: the Pacific nuclear tests of the 1950’s were really efforts to kill the giant lizard. Bryan Cranston is the scientist nobody believes, the only character who knows what’s really going on. “You’re hiding something out there … and it’s going to send us back to the Stone Age!”
It looks like Manhattan is going to get smashed up a lot, and the trailer promises yet another iconic movie shot of a destroyed Statue of Liberty Surely this lady has taken enough abuse, from Planet of the Apes to Cloverfield.
Godzilla smashes into cinemas in May.
Maybe it’s just me, but the recent ‘Godzilla’ (1998) was enough. That and ‘Cloverfield’ satisfied my (non-existent) desire, to see New York trashed by amphibious monsters. Enough is enough. Is there really any point, or is it just a waste of money? (I have my answer…) This is the sort of film that makes me angry. A pointless waste of talent, been done over and over before. Let’s have some new ideas, and fresh inspiration, for God’s sake! I despair of Hollywood, when I see this ‘easy’ crap!
Sorry Niall, I cannot share your anticipation mate. Pete.

I’m looking forward to it because of who’s in it. I’m not expecting it to be anything other than mindless fun (unlike other blockbuster summer films that take themselves far too seriously: the Batman trilogy and Man of Steel)

That’s fair comment Niall. I am just really fed up with constant remakes, and lack of originality. Mindless fun is fine though mate.

I’m just hoping that they do the iconic monster Godzilla some justice. And yes, I’m aware of how stupid that sounds. 🙂
