L is for Lists
The Internet is powered by lists.
There are funny lists, bizarre lists, bucket lists.
And of course because it’s the internet, there are cute pet lists.
It is probably the easiest way to get people to look at your website or blog, because lists offer two two very important things in our accelerated, digital age:
1. There will probably be pictures so I won’t have to spend a lot of time reading
2. There will be weirdness. Weird is interesting. Weird is shareable.
Internet lists tend to do exactly what they say on the tin. There’s no ambiguity about 21 Signs You Are Destined To Be A Cat Lady or 22 Unbelievable Places that are Hard to Believe Really Exist or 10 Bizarre Uses For Excrement.
My friend Cathy is an obsessive list-maker. She made a list of all the books she had bought but never read: 746. She’s ploughing through them here.
I’ve made a few lists of my own. A list of Irish songs. A list of people who never won Oscars. A list of actors you didn’t know were in Band of Brothers.
Speaking of lists – and the letter L – you can see a list of all the A to Z Challenge blogs here.
