April A to Z: P is for Parody #atozchallenge

By Niall McArdle

We are living in parodical times: it seems there is nothing in the culture that doesn’t invite mockery. This has always been the case of course (Aristophanes mocked his Athenian peers; Henry Fielding wrote The Life and Adventures of Joseph Andrews as a piss-take on Samuel Richardson’s Pamela.) Now, though, the internet makes its appearance faster and with a far bigger reach. A few weeks ago there was hubbub on the net over a video of strangers kissing.

The parodies appeared within hours.

Sometimes the parody fails.

Fans of Mad Men know that the show is notorious for maddeningly intriguing trailers. The Simpsons had an affectionate go at the drama last week.
