Bill Murray is Baloo!!!

By Niall McArdle

Bill Murray may be the coolest celebrity in the world, and his exploits are the stuff of legend. He’s taken strangers out for karaoke, crashed a bachelor party, photobombed a couple’s engagement photos, stopped by a student house party and did the dishes, and most recently dropped by an ice-cream social held in his honour.

His deadpan wit and innate sense of mischief have served him well in Hollywood. His street-cred will only be helped by the utterly cool news that  he will voice Baloo in a remake of The Jungle Book. Murray is no stranger to animation voices: he was the voice of Garfield the cat, although that’s a choice he regrets as he only took the gig thinking it was a Coen Brothers movie.

Others in the cast of The Jungle Book include the similarly legendary Christopher Walken as the orangutan King Louie (!), Ben Kingsley as Bagheera the panther, Giancarlo Esposito as wolf Akela and Idris Elba as the villainous tiger Shere Khan. We don’t know if the remake will feature songs, but given his fondness for karaoke, we can only hope that Murray will be singing “Bear Necessities”.

  1. Good cast admittedly Niall. But what the point, really? It just brings me down to be honest; endless re-makes of classic films that just do not need to be done again-ever. Is it any wonder that I watch less films than ever before? I know that it’s nothing new, before others rush in with lists of all the re-makes, but it’s time they stopped. Please stop, film re-makers. You know who you are.
No reflection on you mate, not shooting the messenger. Cheers, Pete.

    1. Remakes used to bother me a lot until it was pointed out to me that The Maltese Falcon is a remake. In fact, it was the third version of the story. And as annoying as it is to do a remake rather than make something original, at best one can hope that the new version will bring people to the old version

      1. I knew about ‘The Maltese Falcon’ Niall, and a lot of the others too. Maybe there is room for re-makes, if they bring new viewers, just not in my lifetime though. (Brighton Rock?)
Can they wait until I am dead, do you think? It won’t be that long now.
        Cheers, Pete.
