Are The Lambs Still Screaming?

By Niall McArdle

I reviewed Jonathan Demme’s Silence of the Lambs as part of the imdb Top 250 Challenge run by Table9mutant over at Cinema Parrot Disco.

I had not watched the film in several years. Did it age well like a nice Chianti? Or is it old and saggy and needs to rub the lotion on its skin?

  1. Good stuff Niall, almost all the film covered in every aspect. As a fan of the books, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well they translated to film, though I personally believe that ‘Manhunter’ is the better film, and Cox a potentially more frightening Lechter, for the reasons you describe. (I love the scene where he fixes the ‘phone, and makes the call to the secretary, getting her to ‘flip the Rolodex’).
I felt lost without Jodie Foster in the sequels to this one, so don’t regard them in the same light.
    Best wishes, Pete.

      1. Seen all the films Niall, but none of the TV series. I liked Petersen in ‘Manhunter’. The way he worked in the houses of the murdered families was just as it was described in the book. OK, I admit it was a bit ‘Miami Vice’ at times, but it still worked.
        Cheers mate.
