Milestone Movies

Now that the end of the year is only a short time away, you’ll start to see lots of Best of 2014 lists popping up. I am putting together a couple myself. In the meantime, though, as I was glancing over some posts from this year I noticed there were a lot of movies that were celebrating significant anniversaries.

Collateral. 10th anniversary

Michael Mann’s stylish thriller with a grey-haired Tom Cruise causing problems for cabbie Jamie Foxxwas released in 2004. My review of it is here.

Pulp Fiction. 20th anniversary

I was so excited about Tarantino’s film turning twenty that I hosted an entire blogathon devoted to the film (actually, it’s still going on, so there’s still time to submit something.)

Trois Coleurs: Bleu. 20th anniversary

The film that Pulp Fiction beat out to win the Palme D’Or at Cannes (much to the dismay of many.) Kieslowski’s lyrical meditation on grief and creativity is still a powerful, beautiful film, and I was glad for a chance to watch it again.

The Shawshank Redemption. 20th anniversary

Get busy livin’ or get busy dyin’. Absolutely goddamned right. Here’s my anniversary review.

North by Northwest. 55th anniversary

The Hitchcock film to end all Hitchcock films. Reviewed here.

Les Quatre Cents Coups. 55th anniversary

Francois Truffaut’s debut still feels as fresh as it did in 1959. Reviewed here.

Double Indemnity. 70th anniversary
