Derka Derka! TEAM AMERICA: WORLD POLICE (video review)

So now after all the controversy over the Sony Hack and The Interview, it turns out we can see the film … and thousands did just that yesterday.

When it still looked as if The Interview would never be seen by anyone, the Alamo Drafthouse planned to screen another North Korean-bashing comedy, Team America: World Police (2004) instead, but Paramount Pictures got scared and kiboshed that idea.

Is Team America: World Police still funny ten years later?

Yes, it does hold up – the satire on the excessive patriotic mood post 9/11 is still sharp – but I also found it wildly homophobic, and its satirical barbs at Hollywood seem rather tame and quite obvious (although the dig at Michael Moore is pretty decent).
