Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays daring tightrope walker Philippe Petit in Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk, coming to cinemas this October.
In 1974 Petit famously made an illegal and ridiculously dangerous tightrope walk between the rooftops of the as-then unfinished Twin Towers in New York.
I’m guessing director Zemeckis has pulled out all his bag of technological tricks for this one. The teaser trailer gave me the willies, so I expect to be clinging to the armrests of my seat at the cinema when I see it in October (and this certainly does look like a film you need to see on the big screen).
If you are unfamiliar with the 1974 event and would like to know more, watch the brilliant documentary Man on Wire, and read Colum McCann’s glorious, heartbreaking novel Let the Great World Spin.
It’ll be a big ask to outdo the documentary – some documentaries, particularly in recent years, have been better than films.

I’m with crimeworm. What’s the point, when the ‘real’ documentary is so good?
No, really, what’s the point? (I am chewing through my bottom lip with frustration…)
Cheers Niall. Pete.

i think this might be one of those rare cases when the fictional account will be just as compelling as the non-fictional one
