heh heh heh … 19 great performances by gene hackman

Today is Gene Hackman‘s 85th birthday. Grantland has a wonderful tribute to the actor here.

Hackman retired several years ago and has vowed never to return to the screen. Apart from occasional work voicing Lowe’s commercials, the last performance he gave was in Welcome to Mooseport (hands up if you remember it). It’s arguably not the greatest film to end a career with. However, we still have some wonderful performances from the actor to enjoy. Just look at some of his iconic roles: New York detective Popeye Doyle, wiretapper Harry Caul, criminal mastermind Lex Luthor, FBI Agent Rupert Anderson, Coach Norman Dale, Sheriff Little Big Daggett.

  1. A great career that included many remarkable performances, alongside some also best forgotten.
I can forgive him anything for ‘The Conversation.’ Mesmerising.
    (Hang on. If he’s 85, that means I’m .. Oh s**t!)
    Cheers Niall. Pete.
