This year’s shortlist for the Kerry Group Irish Novel of the Year Award has been announced. With a prize of €15,000, the prize is the most lucrative literary prize that is available exclusively to Irish authors. Past winners include John Banville, Roddy Doyle, Neil Jordan, and Sebastian Barry.

The shortlist was chosen by author David Park and Irish Times literary critic Eileen Battersby (who for my money is one of the best critics in the world).

The shortlist:

mdTime Present & Time Past by Deirdre Madden

macbrideA Girl is Half-formed Thing by Eimear McBride

transTransAtlantic by Colum McCann

mcgArimathea by Frank McGuinness

The winner will be announced at Listowel Writers’ Week on May 28th.
