160 novels, 44 countries, 19 languages …

The International Dublin Literary Award announced its longlist today.


160 novels were chosen, all nominated by libraries around the world. The Award (formerly known as the IMPAC Award) is the richest literary prize in the world ( €100,000.) 53 of the titles are novels in translation. In all there are novels from 44 countries and in 19 languages. Among the nominated books are 44 American novels, 25 British novels, 10 Canadian novels and 7 Irish novels.

Among the nominees are this year’s Booker winner A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James, Lila by Marilynne RobinsonAll the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, and How to be both by Ali Smith.

The shortlist will be announced in April. Previous winners of the Award include Jim Crace, Colum McCann, Colm Tóibín, and Michel Houellebecq.
